Final Draft!




Adaptations that enable the organism fulfill its role effectively in the food chain: 

  • It has a ring around its neck to brandish at its predator when threaten. 
  • It also has wings to take flight immediately when it sensed its predator coming. 
  • There is also a sharp beak to tear the prey apart when it comes to feeding. Assisting it is its razor sharp teeth to tear the prey’s big head.
  •  It has a thick tongue to prevent it from getting poked by its prey’s needle-like ears when eating. 
  • It also produced saliva that is resistance to the prey’s poison. 
  • Its feathers are also serrated at the tips to reduces the amount of noise it creates while flapping its wings when taking a flight towards the prey.

Adaptations that enable the organism to survive successfully in its habitat: 

  • It will hibernate if food is scarce and will also store food when there is plenty of food in its hump. 
  • Its legs and ears are short as bodies with long legs, ears, and tails lose warmth faster than those with shorter limbs to better conserve heat. 
  • It also has ear-like feather tuffs which are barely visible, giving the owl's head its typically rounded outline and this help in camouflaging. 
  • It also has a white coat to helps camouflage itself when perched on snow. 
  • It has thick feathers which cover its body as feathers helps to insulate the owl's entire body, including its legs and toes, enabling it to maintain a body temperature of 38 - 40 degrees Celsius. 
  • Lastly, it has large black eyes with stiff feathers around them as this design of the eyes and the feathers around them helps in reflecting the sound waves to the openings of the ears which are located right behind them.

Making My 3D Object

1) I crush the newspapers into the shape I want my organism to be.
2) Then I masking tape it to let the newspapers to have a fix shape.



3) Then I paper mache it to make the surface smoother for painting.
4) I painted and sprayed painted it white. (The chemicals got me high).
5) I twist a wire into a ring to be put around the owl's neck.
6) I stick on the white feathers, draw the eyes, make the beak...

2nd Draft of Organism


Since my groupmates have commented that I should have more adaptations, I added lots more! They even suggest adaptations on how to kill the preys for example razor sharp teeth to tear the head etc. They also told me to take out some adaptations as they are too weird/unreal... Thus, I have done a 2nd draft!

Here are my groupmates comments -

Hong Yee: How is the head supposed to be detatched from the head and stuck back again? It kinda seems like a fantasy so i think you have to explain that part, the spring part...i was thinking does your animal really has a spring in its body? I also think you should explain how the saliva produce resistance against prey’s poison.

Ji Won: How can you camouflage when there are no grass? I think you should amend that part.

Yi Yin: So u r small? U nd to be bigger than hong yee rite?

Bohui: I think that the stripe part is weird because with the stripes where can you camouflage in? The tundra biome is mostly snow which is white.

Conghui: the fake eye, can be the design on the body cos fake eye a bit weird... could say that the marking/whatever scares predators away...

1st Draft of Organism

This is from the force-fitting activities and here are my group mates comments -

Hong Yee: Sarah, the rubrics say that is to get excellent, there must be at least 4 adaptation the animal should have for environment and in the food web. As I have a big head to prevent you from eating me, you can tear me apart using some kind of adaptation before eating me.

Ji Won: Sarah, you should add more adaptations. I would suggest about the cold climate, you can have adaptations to keep warm. 

Yi Yin: I think you should say why you choose your organism to be pink. The colour pink can be easily spotted, making the organism more visible to predators.

Conghui: i think camouflaging should be in a lighter colour, like white and the flowery thing can be used to attract mate.

Bohui: I think that the the markings are a bit weird because unless the organism is able to ‘read’ the milimetres marking, then i think the part that stores water could have a strip of transparent part and the organism can just see how much water it needs.

Since the Tundra Biome has a very cold atmosphere, we need adaptations of the organisms for the cold climate.

Hong Yee: The organisms must have outer-covering, for example warm furs or blubber. 
Hong Yee: Conghui wat is your organism? Like wat is ur progress?

Ji Won: I suggest an organism to be hibernating in the summer--> Hong Yee
Hong Yee: yup i am hibernating
Sarah: let’s discuss outer covering
Hong Yee: i have fats n fur
Yi Yin: I have prickly stuff
Hong Yee: Bo Hui?
Bohui: I have ‘fur’ on my organism too
Sarah: Its cold, why pricky stuff?
Hong Yee: cus prickly stuff so lose less heat
Yi Yin: thats why i asked u all to look at my organism for me. Then you all never answer
hibernating in summer???
Bohui: I think should be hibernating in the winter. then in the summer the consumers can 
gather all the food they need and store it lor. Plus the summer is super short only 1-2 months 
only.
Sarah: I will be wool lor.
Ji Won: Then I will have the heating liquid
Yi YIn: So i wat?
Hong Yee: Yiyin ucan remain the prickly stuff
Bohui: Yea
What can a decomposer be?
Bohui: Decomposer needs to decompose the producers, so it can like grow on the producers lor
Yi YIn: So my organism is okay rite?
Bohui: Your organism is ok
Sarah: We need to discuss the habitat now, like tree? ground?
Hong Yee: should be ground, cus the plants everything lives on ground
Yi YIn: there are no trees there
Ji Won: Yi Yin can be floating on water.
Sarah: So like mangrove?
Yi Yin: that’s only in summer becuz the water will be frozen wat
Ji Won: In the winter also because you will be stuck in between the ice.
Yi Yin: then my roots is in the water?
Hong Yee: If im not wrong in winter there is a bit of water in the ground, so the plants roots should be       very shallow
Sarah: like a bug skate.
Ji Won: @Sarah, who?
Yi Yin: i am a plant, how to skate???? :O
Yi Yin: @ Hong Yee So my roots short one lah?
Hong Yee: yup, have to be
Yi Yin: ok, so roots in the water?
Conghui: so my organism would need something to decompose you’ll when you’ll are dead 
 right? oh and my decomposer can only survive in high temperature, it that ok? what i mean
is that it must be in cold temperature to survive
Hong Yee: no tats not true cong hui. Cus its tundra biome, so very cold, so your organism 
must have some kind of adaptation to keep warm
Hong Yee: @ Cong hui, u can decompose anything, as long its dead
Yi Yin: Can meh? I thought miss tok say must be able to happen one. U ask miss tok lah
Hong Yee: yeah
Ji Won: Sarah, what can you say about that? Must it be realistic?

Hong Yee: hey guys i think we should concentrate on 1 thing first u noe, cus its VERY messy

Yi Yin: Organisms
Hong Yee: lets say the most basic one. Habitat?
Ji Won: Habitat, is dependent on the climate of the Tundra Biome
Yi Yin: Talk about habitat, then got habitat already then can say about the organisms. We 
didn’t do that at first. SO WE MIGHT HAVE TO REDO!
Hong Yee: but its just one part of the tundra biome
Ji Won: it’s okay, then we can like make the habitat to be land & water both:D
Ji Won: like bohui is water plant right? or yiyin.. hey yi yin or hongyee! Do you remember 
what we have discussed last time?
Bohui: mine is not water plant.



In a nutshell... 

My group consists of 6 members, Park Ji Won, Guo Bohui, Lee Hong Yee, Liu Conghui , Chow Yi Yin and myself. As we did not have time to meet up for a discussion, we constantly did discussions online.
 
First, we considered the factors of the Tundra Biome in Planet Zork. Thereafter, we did our force fitting using an object and posted it on a Google document that one of our group members created. Then, we all commented on each other’s force fitting and we amended it. We also discussed on how we could improve and accommodate our special features such that our food chain could flow. We also considered the features of each other’s organism and see what the possibilities were for our features.
 
Furthermore, we continued to see what features were suitable to protect itself from the surrounding temperature and climate. Then, we continued with our second and third drafts. We commented and finally arrived at our final product, our organisms.
